Upper Dolpo Trek

Upper Dolpo Trek renders a rare peek into the centuries old bon and shamanistic culture that is still prevalent in the Dolpo region of Western Nepal. Shey Gompa- the spiritual heart of Upper Dolpo is yet another reason to book for Upper Dolpo Trek. Upper Dolpo Trek was opened for foreigners only in 1989 and even now Upper Dolpo Trek requires special permit from the Nepalese government for which a fee of around US$500 is charged for first ten days and an additional 50$ per day from the day 11. Shey Phoksundo Lake, Shey Gompa, panoramic view of Majestic Kanjirowa Himal and Namgung Gompa are worth the watch during Upper Dolpo Trek. Three High passes namely Nagdalo (5350m), Shey-La (5000m) and Jeng-La (5110m) makes Upper Dolpo Trek indeed an arduous one.
Dolpo boasts in having the country’s largest National Park which provides a shelter for diverse wild species of flora and fauna. If you are lucky enough, you will get a chance to spot animals like Musk deer, Himalayan blue sheep and snow leopard while on the way to the Upper Dolpo Trek.
