Saga Dawa Festival

Saga Dawa Festival Tour is 18-day long package which takes you to Tarboche to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and transcendence of Shakyamuni Gautam Buddha. Saga Dawa Festival is held every year on 15th day of the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar which usually coincides with June 12 of English calendar.
Saga Dawa Festival event will include traditional Tibetan dance from popular artists, eating only vegetarian food during this festival and avoid killing domestic and wild animals. Hundreds of thousands of people flock to their prayer wheels in Tarboche and sing and dance in the evening.
Saga Dawa Festival Tour will take you through Mount Kailash which is located northwest of Nepal. The road to Mount Kailash is strenuous but it is also the major holy site of four religions- Bon, Hindu, Buddhism and Jain. Every year thousands of people arrive here to circumambulate the Mount Kailash and cleanse their sin

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
You will find our representatives there at the Airport, ready to greet you when you land at the International Airport of Kathmandu. You will then be transferred to the hotel where you will be briefly explained about the itinerary package. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
On the second day, you will be taken out for an excursion to some of the chief sites in and around Kathmandu. You will be visiting the monuments, temples including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath and Durbar squares of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur, all enlisted in the UNESCO world heritage site. After sightseeing, you will then return back to the hotel.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Nyalam (3750m)
You will leave Kathmandu early in the morning and cover a distance of123km in about 5 hrs to reach to Nepal Tibet Border. After completing immigration formalities at the border, you will head to Zhangmu. You will walk for about 2 hrs during which you will climb up and pass through a gorge with mossy waterfall to reach Nyalam. You will stay overnight at Guest House.

Day 04: Acclimatization at Nyalam (3750m)
The 4th day is a free day meant for acclimatization. Tibet is named the Roof of the Earth for it is located on the highest plateau on Earth. You need to acclimatize yourself so that you won’t suffer from high altitude sickness. Drink plenty of water and eat fresh fruits. Take rest and breathe deeply and slowly. It will help you to adjust to the high altitude.

Day 05: Drive to Saga (4640 m)
On the 5th day, you will hit on the road through long sandy and rocky land of Tibet. You will climb up the high pass Labug La. From here, you will pursue the Old Silk Route and cross Shisha Pangma Mountain on the south to finally reach to a meadow. Near to the meadow is Saga where you will stay overnight.

Day 06: Drive to Paryang (4540m)
Paryang is located 225 km far from Saga and it takes about 7-8hrs long drive to make it to Paryang. You will pass through scenic beauties of mountains and wild and farm animals before reaching Paryang. You will stay overnight in Paryang.

Day 07: Drive to Manasarovar (4540m)
Your destination for the day is Manasarovar which you will reach after driving the total distance of 180 km. The whole journey for the day takes about 6hrs to complete. You will drive to Chui Gompa by circumambulating Manasarovar Lake. You will stay overnight at the banks of Manasarovar.

Day 08: Move to Darchen
After worshipping early in the morning and taking a holy bath in Manasarovar Lake, you will head to Darchen which is situated at 4560m altitude. While at Darchen, you will visit Sherlung Gompa by jeep from where you can have wonderful view of mountains like Kailash, Nandi, Kuber and many more. You will stay overnight in Darchen.

Day 09: Attend Saga Dawa Festival in Tarboche
This is the festival day to celebrate the enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha which will be held on Tarbochen- the starting point of Kailash Parikrama. So early in the morning, we will drive for about an hour to reach Tarbochen. The festival is held on full moon in the fourth month of the lunar calendar which usually falls between May-June. You will see thousands of visitors attaching prayer flags to the flag poles. You will move forward passing through rocky cliffs and waterfalls.

Day 10: Trek to Dehara Puk (5000m)
About 5 hrs of walking through numerous waterfalls and rocky cliffs will lead you to Dehara Puk. On the way, you can enjoy the scenic beauty of northern face of Mount Kailash along with other mountains. Later you will lower down to finally reach to Dehara Puk where you will call the day off.

Day 11: Cross Dolmala pass and walk to Zutul Puk
You will continue Parikrama by walking past Dolma La pass (5650m). The trek is little difficult one but this day is the holiest day of your pilgrimage Yatra. Once you reach the top, just make the place holiest offering and sit down for meditation. Lowering down, you will reach Parvati-Stal and Gauri Kunda. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Zuthul Puk (the cave of Miracles) where the great ascetic Milerappa is believed to have performed miracles.

Day 12: Trek to Manasarovar Lake
After early breakfast, you will cover total distance of 12 km this day which will take about 4 hrs to complete. You will cross few streams and have a peek at the eastern side of Mount Kailash before reaching to Manasarovar Lake. You will camp at the bank of Manasarovar this day.

Day 13: Travel to Paryang (4540m)
After having a holy bath in Manasarovar Lake, you will visit Chui Gompa. From there, drive for about 6 hrs to get to Paryang where you will stay overnight.

Day 14: Travel to Saga (4640m)
Early in the morning, you will drive for Saga which will take about 8-9 hrs to cover total distance of about 225 km of length. You will stay overnight at Saga.

Day 15: Move to Nyalam
The drive from Saga to Nyalam takes about 8-9hrs. You will encounter two mountain passes on the way before arriving to Lake Pelkutso during noon where you will have your lunch. Later you will cross Brahmaputra River to finally reach to Nyalam which will be the final destination for the day.

Day 16: Drive to Kathamndu
From Nyalam, you will head towards Zhangmu- the border town on Tibet side. You will undergo immigration formalities and then arrive at Friendship Bridge. It takes about 15 minutes of walk to arrive to Nepal’s side of border. From Kodari, you will drive back to Kathmandu following the Araniko Highway which will take about5-6 hrs time. You will stay overnight in hotel.

Day 17: Free day in Kathmandu
Today is a free day. Ease yourself up. Spend up your day either relaxing and recovering from the strenuous travel or pay a visit to Thamel to buy souvenirs to your beloved ones back home. You will enjoy dinner amid Cultural dance performed on your honor.

Day 18: Final departure from Kathmandu
The long travel formally concludes this day. You will be assisted in your last moment preparation and transited to Tribhuvan International Airport. We bid you farewell and expect to serve you again!!
