Makalu West Col and Sherpani Col with Island

Makalu West Col and Sherpani Col with Island Peak Climbing is the challenging trek that will check your endurance level at various points. This exciting trek progresses through the rarely visited and unspoiled highland places. Since only die heart climbers visit join this trek, this region welcomes only few number of tourists each year and thus is perfect for those who wish to travel through tranquil places undisturbed by the crowd.
Himalayan Spirit Trek and Expeditions’ is currently operating ‘Makalu West Col and Sherpani Col with Island Peak Climbing’ as 26- days package that begins with 50minutes flight to Tumlingtar. Disembarking at Tumlingtar, we will begin our trekking as we trek to Khadbari. The trail progresses through villages of Chichila, Num, Seduwa, Tashi Gaon and Kauma Danda where we will have opportunity to closely observe ancient culture and traditions. The trail progresses further through Mumbuk, Nhe Kharka and Sherson to Makalu Base Camp. We will ascend Makalu Mountain and enjoy views of Everest and Lhotse Mountains before continuing our journey to Sherpani Col and West Col from where we will descend to beautiful Panchpokhari Lake and cross Amphu Labtsa Pass to arrive at Chhukung. From Chhukung, we will conquer Island Peak and head to Lukla. A return flight from Lukla will take us to Kathmandu and thus the enthralling ‘Makalu West Col and Sherpani Col with Island Peak Climbing’ concludes.
Prior trekking experience is required to join this trek. Since the trek covers most difficult cliff passes of sherpani Col, West Col and Amphu Lapcha, full equipments along with cables and pick axes are required.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu:
As soon as you disembark in Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu, you will be received by the representative from Himalayan Spirit Adventure Trek and Expeditions. About half an hour drive through the bustling streets of Kathmandu will convey you to the hotel. A brief explanation of the itinerary package will be followed by the welcome dinner which will be served in your honor.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu:
We will take the guided city tour of culturally diverse city of Kathmandu. Kathmandu is aptly known as city of temples. After breakfast, we will visit some UNESCO enlisted cultural sites like The Monkey Temple or Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple complex, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Lalitpur Durbar Square. We will return back to the hotel in the evening and stay overnight.

Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar Trek to Khadbari (1040m) 4hrs:
We will catch early morning flight from domestic Airport at Kathmandu. 50minutes of scenic flight with views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Langtang, Makalu and other peaks will shift us to the airstrip at Tumlingtar. From Tumlingtar, we will begin our trekking by heading north towards Khadbari where we will stay overnight.

Day 04: Trek to Chichila (1830m) 6hrs:
We will take the raised trail that passes through few small settlements to arrive at
Bhotebas. Later, we will pass through the forest of blooming rhododendrons and bamboos to arrive at the beautiful Gurung village of Chichila where we will stay overnight.

Day 05: Trek to Num (1490m) 5hrs:
The trek on 5th day begins as we pass through the forest of rhododendron, oaks and hemlock. We will choose the raised path uphill to arrive at a ridge from where we will enjoy the scenic view of Makalu Mountain before lowering down to Num which is the small village.

Day 06: Trek to Seduwa (1460m) 6hrs:
We will take the notoriously steep trail all the way down to Arun River. We will cross the suspension bridge and walk through woods. The trail then escalates uphill through Runruma to Seduwa Village where we will stay overnight.

Day 07: Trek to Tashi Gaon (2070m) 5hrs:
After following the easy trail that passes through the plain land of cornfields at few dispersed villages, we will have to take the escalating route for about an hour that proceeds through millet and rice fields. The trail will lead us to yet another exquisite highland village of Tashi Gaon.

Day 08: Trek to Kauma Danda (3470m) 6hrs:
Kauma Danda is the very last permanent village that we will encounter until we arrive at Makalu Mountain. We will pass through rhododendron and oak woods and arrive at the plain land. The trail then becomes strenuous as it takes the sharp ascent to Kauma Danda hill. We will enjoy the epic mountain views that the hill offers and stay overnight.

Day 09: Rest day at Kauma:
Acclimatizing is a necessary step that helps in synchronizing your body movements with the high altitude of Makalu region. Experts recommend a gentle walk for proper acclimatization. So we will take a short trek around Kauma Danda hill and stay overnight.

Day 10: Trek to Mumbuk (3570m) 5hrs:
We will admire the beauty of several magnificent snow- clad peaks and begin our trekking on 10th day. We will arrive at Thulo Pokhari after series of ups and downs. We will later pass through Sano Pokhari and cross Tutu La (4075m). Lowering down from Tutu La, we will arrive at Mumbuk where we will stay overnight.

Day 11: Trek to Nhe Kharka (3000m) 6hrs:
Early in the morning, we will enjoy the magnificent views of Kumbakarna Mountain and then we will lower down to unspoiled lands of Barun Valley. We will walk along the bank of Barun River to arrive at Nhe Kharka which is the summer grazing field used by locals of Tashi Gaon and Num Gaon.

Day 12: Trek to Sherson (4615m) 7hrs:
We will cross the wooden bridge over Barun River and visit the large prayer wall at Ramara. Enroute, we will enjoy the views of Barun glacier and Makalu Mountain before arriving at Sherson which is the lower base camp for Makalu Mountain. Sherson offers views of Makalu Mountain and Baruntse Mountain.

Day 13: Trek to Makalu Base Camp (5000m) 5hrs:
About 5hours of walk from Sherson will take us to Makalu Base Camp. Enroute, we will arrive at the low pass. We will enjoy the views of southern face of Makalu Mountain along with Everest and Lhotse Mountains. Walk continues through the rock strewn path to Makalu Base Camp.

Day 14: Trek to High Camp:
We will hike further up to High Camp from Makalu Base Camp. It takes about 5hours of perilous ascent to take us to High camp of Makalu Mountain. The trail that is made slippery with melting snow continues uphill through glaciers and boulders. We will stay overnight at the tented camp.

Day 15: Trek to Sherpani Col:
The trail begins high above western edge of Barun slope and leads us to valley where two glaciers are formed out of melting snow from Sherpani Col. 5hours of difficult climbing will be enough to take us to the camping area that lies below the ice cliffs.

Day 16: Trek to West Col:
After we climb the Sherpani Glacier, we will fix cables wherever necessary and follow the steep slope that will lead us to West Col where we will stay overnight.

Day 17: Trek to Panch Pokhari:
Lowering down from West Col, we will walk through Hongu glacier and arrive at Upper Hongu Valley. We will walk through moraines and arrive at exotic Panch Pokhari (Five Ponds) that is located near to Amphu Labtsa Pass (5780m).

Day 18: Trek to Chhukung (4730m) via Amphu Labtsa Pass (5780m) 6hrs:
After crossing Amphu Labtsa Pass, we will walk along the valley before following the raised path. About 2hours of walk will be enough to take us to Chhukung Valley which is located at 4730m altitude. It is the valley that exists near to the base of Island Peak. We will stay overnight at Chhukung.

Day 19: Trek to Island Peak Base Camp:
After having breakfast, we will climb from the southern edge of the valley and head east. We will follow the rocky terrain and arrive to the cross route through Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines. The trail will take us to Island Peak Base Camp where we will stay overnight.

Day 20: Trek to High Camp:
We will hike further up to High Camp from the Island Peak Base Camp. It takes about 4hours of perilous ascent to take us to High camp of Island Peak. Once we reach to the high camp, we will begin the preparation for the next day to reach to the summit. We will stay overnight at the tented camp.

Day 21: Trek to Summit Back to Base Camp:
It is the day that we finally arrive to our ultimate destination. Once we conquer the summit, we will enjoy the gratifying views of Pumori(7161m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m), Lobuche (6145m), Cho Oyu (8201m) and then lower down to the Island Peak Base Camp where we will celebrate our victory and stay overnight in a camp.

Day 22: Trek to Khumjung:
After early breakfast, we will leave Island Peak and take a return trip to Khumjung Village. We will pass through the downward trail and pass the stream at few places over suspension bridge. Later we will arrive at Khumjung village where we will be staying overnight.

Day 23: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m):
The next day, we will begin the downhill trek from Khumjung to Namche Bazaar (3440m). Namche is the beautiful place where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of nature. Enroute, we will visit the monasteries. We will stay overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 24: Trek to Lukla (2850m):
The trek continues further downhill as we reach Lukla after almost seven hours of trek. We will be staying in Lukla for the rest of the day and prepare ourselves to board a flight back to Kathmandu the next day.

Day 25: Fly to Kathmandu:
It takes 30minutes of scenic flight to take us back to Kathmandu. Once we arrive at the airport, we will drive through the busy streets of Kathmandu to reach to the hotel where we will stay overnight.

Day 26: Departure:
Our staff will assist in your last moment preparation. You will then be taken back to Tribhuvan International Airport. You will then board a flight which will take you to your next destination. We would like to see you again soon in future. Safe Journey!!!
