Gosainkunda Festival Trek

Gosainkunda Festival Trek is also known as Gosainkunda Walking Festival and Trekking in Gosainkunda Festival. Gosainkunda Festival Trek is a 11- day long package to Gosainkunda Lake which is located at 4360m altitude towards north of Kathmandu and just south of the Langtang Range.
Gosainkunda Festival Trek is organized every year during Janai Purnima which coincides with the full moon of August during which thousands of pilgrims gather around from far and wide to take a holy dip in Goshainkunda Lake. During Gosainkunda Festival Trek, we will meet Jhakris (traditional faith healers) who are dressed in belted white robes and hat made of porcupine quills and peacock feathers who will be performing ritual dance synchronizing their steps to the beat of their drums known as Damphu.
Gosainkunda is believed to be the rest place of Lord Shiva (The destroyer God). Having a bath in this lake in Janai Purnima(sacred thread wearing ceremony) is believed to cleanse off all the sins of the devotees and they are believe to ascend to Kailash Dhaam (ultimate shelter of Lord Shiva) after their death if they bath in this sacred lake. Besides religious basis, bathing in this lake is also claimed to cure the skin disease.
Thus Gosainkunda Festival Trek aptly blends adventure with religion.
