Arun Valley Trek

Arun Valley Trek is the least travelled route among Nepal Trekking. It takes you to Arun Valley which is located in between Mount Everest and Makalu- Barun National Park. Taking Arun Valley Trek acquaints you with scenic beauties and diverse ethnic cultures of Sherpa, Rai and Limbu who are the major inhabitants of Arun Valley. Arun Valley Trekking provides an alternative way to reach Khumbu region thus making it ideal for one who have already been to Everest Region. Arun Valley Trek offers the least travelled route to Everest Base Camp located in Kalapatthar. Thus, Arun Valley Trek can be the gateway to begin trek to Everest Base Camp. Arun valley Trek is popular for the panoramic views of series of Mountains it offers including Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Mount Barunche, Mount Lhotse, Mount Nuptse, Mount Amadablam and Mount Thamserku.
Salpa Bhanjyang and Salpa Pokhari (3414m) are yet another reason to choose Arun Valley Trek. Arun Valley Trekking is possible throughout the year. Arun Valley is also home for more than 650 species of birds and over 800 species of butterflies. It also provides shelter to Panda- the endangered species. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, our representatives will greet you at the Airport and take you to the hotel. After a little freshening, you will get a briefing about the itinerary. You will then have a rest and stay at the hotel for the rest of the night.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
The next morning after having breakfast, you will leave for a sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley. You will have a short tour to temples and monuments like Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swyambhunath and Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Suare (all UNESCO World Heritage sites). At the end of the day, you will return back to the hotel and prepare for the flight tomorrow.

Day 03: Fly to Biratnagar, drive to Hile
On the third day, you will board a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar, a sub- metropolitan city in southeast Nepal which is also the second largest city of Nepal. We will then take a drive of about 108 minutes to cover 105km distance to finally arrive at Hile in Dhankuta district where you will stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 04: Trek to Mongmaya Khola
The early morning of 4th day would be the beginning of our trekking. We will start from Hile and then traverse hillsides to the village of Pakhribas. We will pass through terraces of rice field before lowering down to the grassy flats beside Mongmaya Khola. We will prepare a camp and stay overnight in the meadow. It takes about 6-7 hrs of trekking on the fourth day.

Day 05: Trek to Surtibari
A 6 hrs of walk through the edge of river and a gentle lowering down take us to Surtibari- a locality with few scattered houses which lies at an altitude of over 2000 meters above sea level. We will stay overnight in a camp at Surtibari.

Day 06: Trek to Tumlingtar
It takes about 6 and half hours to cover the distance between Surtibari and Tumlingtar. The route begins with a thrilling sensation of crossing through hanging ropeways over river. About 2 hours of gentle descend will take us to Tumlingtar- a small town where lies Tumlingtar Airport.

Day 07: Trek to Kartike
With early sunshine, we will follow the trail through plains and ascend towards paddy fields which will lead to small village of scattered split bamboo houses. After having a brief rest, we will cross Arun River through a suspension bridge and reach to the village of Kartikeghat (950m) located on the banks of river. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 08: Trek to Gothey
The route will follow uphill away from Arun towards Chalise. A steady climb through Chalise will lead to Gothe Bazaar where we will camp for the night. A progressive 7 hours walk will take us to Gothey village on the 8th day of the trek.

Day 09: Trek to Phedi
The next day, we resume our trek and continue trekking until we cross the Irkhu River which falls on the way. A little farther from the river is a village named – Dhobane Danphe. Passing through tea houses we will make it to Phedi where we will stay overnight in a camp. It takes around 7 hours to reach Phedi.

Day 10: Trek to Gurase
We will have a bit strenuous climb up the hill to Jaubari and having a lunch there, we will proceed through rhododendron forest. We will finally arrive to Gurase- meaning “full of rhododendrons” where we will stay for the night.

Day 11: Trek to Sanam
An early journey from Gurase will lead us to Salpa Phedi located at 1680m altitude. We will have a difficult climb up the steep hill till we reach a Sherpa Village-Sanam located at 1680m altitude. We will get to know the lifestyle of locals in Sanam and then stay in a tented camp for the night.

Day 12: Trek to Bung
Bung, which is located at 1900m altitude, can be conquered in about 6-7 hours from Sanam. The route from Sanam will start ascending further till we reach to Bung- the rest camp for the day.

Day 13: Trek to Gaikharka
The journey for the day will begin immediately after having breakfast. We will have a hard climb up the hill and finally arrive to a meadow of lavish grass which goes by the name- Gai Kharka. Gai Kharka in English translates as the grazing area of yak and it situates itself at 2300m altitude. We will prepare our camp here and stay overnight in the camp.

Day 14: Trek to Vasme
It is a 5-hour trek from Gaikharka to Vasme. The route follows its course all the way up to the steep hill to reach Vasme. We will stay overnight at Vasme in a tented camp.

Day 15: Trek to Pangum
Today’s trek will follow the steep ascent to a High Pass- Pangum. We will have a brief rest there. A little further from the Pass lies Pangum Village. We will have our camp prepared in Pangum Village and then amuse ourselves with culture of ever smiling locals and the villagers.

Day 16: Trek to Puyan
A walk of about 7 hours from Pangum will lead us to Puyan. The route from Pangum will descend downhill, passes through a ridge and meet with a Jiri trail before taking us to Puyan. We will stay overnight in a camp at Puyan. There exists another lower and easier route. Yet we prefer this route for the scenic beauty it offers.

Day 17: Trek to Lukla
Lukla, which is located at 2860m altitude, can be made from Puyan with a casual stroll through forest and scattered houses. Lukla is a popular place for tourists who are on trekking to the Himalayas near the region of Mount Everest. Lukla will be our destination for the 17th day where we will be staying in a guesthouse overnight.

Day 18: Flight to Kathmandu
We will take a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla Airport the next day. 45 minutes of short yet memorable flight will be enough for us to land at the Airport in Kathmandu. We will then be taken back to the hotel where we will rest for the rest of the day. In the evening, you can come outside the hotel and visit the local market in Kathmandu and buy some souvenir for you near and dear ones back home.

Day 19: Departure from Kathmandu, Farewell!!
The long travel formally concludes this day. You will be assisted in your last moment preparation and then be transferred to the Tribhuvan International Airport for you flight back home. We bid you farewell and expect to serve you again.
